What Makes a Church Vulnerable to Attack?

Churches, as Private facilities that are Public in nature, are extremely vulnerable to the mass shooter type of violent attack. Large gatherings of people assemble there at publicly published and predictable times. Controversial things are said within, by sometimes equally controversial speakers. People from troubled families seek refuge, counseling, and pastoral guidance within. And, random people are generally allowed to come and go through multiple points of entry without invitation or examination. Coupled with a reliance upon faith only, and a lackadaisical mindset toward the need for hard security, and a church becomes the ultimate soft target.

At the same time, this public private space is afforded no direct on-site police protection.

Why Must We Reconsider How We Protect Our Public & Private Schools?

Schools are where our most precious people gather on a daily basis at publicly prescribed times. They are also places where underdeveloped and immature minds experience daily peer pressures, embarrassment, teasing, bullying, puppy love, and adolescent heartbreaks. These are all emotional pressures that are on top of the academic pressures to perform. Observe & Report. By law, those are the limits of the responsibilities of state licensed security guards, regardless of whether they are armed or unarmed. Armed security guards are armed for their own protection, not the protection of the client that contracted them to Observe & Report. They are armed for personal defense. Furthermore, the majority of security guards are not well-compensated, and therefore cannot afford to pay for high quality firearms and tactical training. They receive no more training in firearm usage than a person who receives a concealed carry permit. They are trained on the law, and nothing else.

When the Random Active Shooter Shoots Up Your Store, Will You Rely on the Guard Hired to Prevent Shoplifting to Save Lives? Or, must you save yourself?

In any random week, over 50,000 customers visit an individual Walmart Supercenter. Between 15,000-30,000 customers patronize their community Kroger or other grocery store. And, tens of thousands of people visit community malls and shopping centers every day, and weekend.
